MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC Changes for the Better

Smarter energy management

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive Czech (MEAC), part of the global Mitsubishi Electric Group, operates a modern manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic supplying electrical and electronic components to the automotive industry across Europe. The site combines established production systems with advanced digital solutions, including building and energy management, to improve visibility and overall plant performance.

The challenge: balancing efficiency and stability

A modern factory is no longer just a collection of machines - it is a fully connected operation powered by data.

The challenge is to translate that data into measurable business outcomes, including higher output, reduced downtime, lower energy consumption, and safer working conditions.

At the same time, the goal is not to disrupt existing operations. Proven systems already running on the shop floor must continue to deliver stable performance, while new capabilities are introduced to improve efficiency.

This creates a need for a practical and low-risk approach - one that enables measurable improvements without replacing the entire infrastructure.

The solution: connecting building systems and data

The approach focused on keeping what works and connecting it to a data-driven layer.

Existing Q-series control systems remained in operation, while additional connectivity and data capabilities were introduced where they deliver measurable gains.

The BMS is built on ICONICS Genesis64 with MELSEC iQ-R PLCs, enabling full visibility and control of the plant environment.

It monitors HVAC, the data center, free cooling, UPS, and other technical utilities, with over 3,000 measurement points feeding a single data view.

The results: reducing costs and increasing visibility

The implementation delivers practical, measurable improvements:

  • less downtime and faster troubleshooting through better visibility

  • improved decision-making based on a single data view

  • reduced energy costs through active monitoring and control

  • faster response through SMS and e-mail alarms

The system enables the energy-saving team to act quickly and effectively.

Why it matters?

Successful digitalisation is not defined by adopting new technology alone.

It depends on the ability to turn data into consistent, daily improvements through the right tools, processes, and organisational mindset.

By combining a modern BMS with proven production systems, MEAC shows how to improve energy efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance operational performance - while maintaining stability across the factory.
